Product ad

From your Shopify admin, go to Products, click the product, and in the Media section click Upload new or drag the file into Media. Then drag that media to the first place. The first media item is the featured media.

Shopify's product media types page, checked October 19, 2026, lists a length up to 10 minutes, a size up to 1 GB, and a resolution up to 4K (4096 x 2160 px), as .mp4, .mov, or .webm. A product can also hold at most 250 media items. Plan limits are in the tables below.

The desktop steps on Adding product media, checked October 19, 2026, are:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products.
  2. Click the product.
  3. In the Media section, click Upload new and select the file, or drag the file into Media. Select existing and Add from URL are the other two controls on that page.
  4. Drag the video to the first place. The change-main-media steps say to drag it to the first image's place. The first media item is the featured media. It is what collection pages, the cart page, the checkout page, and the home page show.

Upload limits

The upload limits below are quoted from Product media types and Adding product media, both checked October 19, 2026. This article does not add a limit those pages do not state.

Uploaded video file requirements:

Limit Uploaded video
Length Up to 10 minutes
File size Up to 1 GB
Resolution Up to 4K (4096 x 2160 px)
File types .mp4, .mov, or .webm

Shopify says .webm and .mov files can be uploaded, and that Shopify converts and serves videos as .mp4 or HLS. An embedded YouTube or Vimeo video does not have to meet this table. URLs other than YouTube or Vimeo are not supported. In browsers that support streaming, videos display in either 480p, 720p, or 1080p, depending on the viewer's connection speed and the resolution of the uploaded video. In browsers that do not stream, videos display in the highest resolution available. Those playback sizes are Shopify's, not the size of a Sisif file. This article does not state a minimum resolution, because the page states a maximum only.

A product can hold a maximum of 250 images, 3D models, or videos. 3D models and videos cannot be used for variant media.

Count of videos and 3D models per store, from the same adding-media page:

Plan Limit per store
Starter 250
Pause and Build 250
Retail 250
Basic and Shopify Partner development stores 250
Grow 1,000
Advanced 5,000
Plus and Shopify Partner Plus sandbox stores 50,000
Enterprise 100,000

Video storage per store, which the page says is separate from storage for every file:

Plan Limit per store
Starter 50 GB
Pause and Build 50 GB
Retail 50 GB
Basic and Shopify Partner development stores 50 GB
Shopify Partner Plus sandbox stores 60 GB
Grow 500 GB
Advanced 500 GB
Plus 2 TB
Enterprise 10 TB

The page says a Plus or Enterprise store can contact Shopify Support to ask for more video storage. A store can upload a maximum of 1,000 videos in a week. The limit resets weekly and cannot be raised.

Storage for every file, also from that page, is a different table:

Plan Limit per store
Starter 100 GB
Pause and Build 100 GB
Retail 100 GB
Basic and Shopify Partner development stores 100 GB
Grow 300 GB
Advanced 500 GB
Plus and Shopify Partner Plus sandbox stores 1 TB
Enterprise 10 TB

If you move to a plan with a lower storage limit and the store is already over it, the page says existing files stay, and new uploads wait until the total is under the new limit.

Upload versus embed. Use Upload new or drag for an MP4 you already have, including a Sisif file. Add from URL is for a YouTube or Vimeo video. YouTube must be Public or Unlisted. The supported YouTube URL is https://youtube.com/watch?v=[video-id]. A YouTube Shorts URL is not supported. The page says to convert it to that watch URL. The supported Vimeo URL is https://vimeo.com/[video-id], not a vanity URL, and the video has to allow embedding on external sites. Private or restricted videos cannot be added.

Themes, the description, and autoplay

Theme support, from Product media types, checked October 19, 2026. The theme has to support the media you add. All Online Store 2.0 themes built by Shopify, and all Horizon family themes, support 3D models or videos. Craft, Crave, Dawn, and Sense are the themes that page names for enhanced Vimeo playback. For a third-party theme, the page says to contact the theme developer.

A product description does not take an MP4 the way Media does. Using the rich text editor, checked October 19, 2026, says that to embed a video you created you first upload it to YouTube or Vimeo, then use Insert video in the editor. That page names a third-party site, Embed Responsively, as a way to build the embed code. This article did not check that site. The same page says the Brooklyn and Supply themes can take the embed code from YouTube or Vimeo directly, and that those themes make the embed responsive.

Autoplay depends on the theme. The product media types page and the adding product media page do not describe an admin switch for autoplay. Support product media, checked October 19, 2026, says each video_tag parameter is false by default, and that a theme can set it to true. The parameters on that page are autoplay, loop, muted, and controls. Accessibility best practices, checked the same day, says media does not play on its own. If a video must play on its own, including a video in a slideshow, the clip stays silent. This article does not state what a particular live theme does.

When the product has no video yet

A Sisif product ad is a silent 5-second portrait MP4 at 540x960 for $1. 5 seconds is inside the maximum of 10 minutes. 540x960 is under 4K (4096 x 2160 px). .mp4 is one of the listed file types. This article does not state the byte size of a Sisif file, so it does not claim the file is under 1 GB.

That purchase is 12 credits. The file has no watermark. A subscription is not required. The file is ready in 2-5 minutes. The pay page shows the product name, the photo when one is attached, and the price. It does not print the prompt.

If the product has no video yet, make one from the product photo, then upload that MP4 under Media. no video yet? make one from the product photo. The twelve clothing ads ideas are a separate list.

Frequently asked questions

How do I put a video on my Shopify product page?
From the Shopify admin, go to Products, click the product, and in Media click Upload new or drag the file into Media. Then drag that media to the first place. The first media item is the featured media. The theme has to support video. Checked October 19, 2026 on Shopify's adding product media page.
What is the maximum video size allowed for Shopify products?
Shopify's product media types page, checked October 19, 2026, lists a length up to 10 minutes, a size up to 1 GB, and a resolution up to 4K (4096 x 2160 px), as .mp4, .mov, or .webm. A product can hold at most 250 media items. Plan limits on the count of videos and 3D models are separate.
Can I embed a YouTube or Vimeo video instead of uploading a file?
Yes. Add from URL accepts a YouTube or Vimeo link, and that embed does not have to meet the upload limits. Other video URLs are not supported. YouTube must be Public or Unlisted, and a Shorts URL has to be converted to a watch URL. Vimeo needs the direct video URL and permission to embed on external sites.
Which Shopify themes support product video?
All Online Store 2.0 themes built by Shopify, and all Horizon family themes, support 3D models or videos. Craft, Crave, Dawn, and Sense are named for enhanced Vimeo playback. A third-party theme is a question for its developer.
Does a Shopify product video autoplay?
The help pages do not describe an admin switch for autoplay. Theme docs say each video_tag parameter is false by default, and a theme can set autoplay to true. The accessibility page says media does not play on its own. This article does not state what your live theme does.
What if the product has no video yet?
Make one silent 5-second portrait MP4 at 540x960 from the product photo for $1, then upload that file under Media.
